JEE Main and Advanced papers are different animals
JEE Main papers (with official answer keys and, for each session, your recorded responses) are published by NTA; because Main runs in multiple shifts, raw marks are converted to percentiles, so comparing raw scores across shifts or years misleads. JEE Advanced papers and full official answer keys are published by the organising IIT on jeeadv.ac.in — and Advanced changes its pattern nearly every year by design.
That difference dictates practice: Main rewards speed and coverage across the full syllabus; Advanced rewards depth and comfort with unfamiliar question formats (multiple-correct, integer, matrix and paragraph types).
A two-track PYQ plan
- Main: shift-wise papers as mock tests — Recent session papers under exam timing, scored with the official key. Track accuracy per subject, not just totals.
- Advanced: solve by topic first, then full papers — Advanced PYQs by topic build the depth; full papers then train paper strategy across its two sessions in a day.
- Keep an error log that names the cause — Concept gap, calculation slip, or misread format — the fix is different for each, and Advanced punishes format misreads hardest.
Percentile ≠ percentage: A JEE Main percentile is your rank position among that session's candidates, not marks out of 100. Cut-off percentiles move with cohort size and difficulty — judge your practice scores against recent official keys, not against percentile folklore.

Should I solve all 19 years of JEE Advanced papers?
Solving the last 10–12 years thoroughly is the typical recommendation. Earlier papers (pre-2012 IIT-JEE format) are still useful for concept depth, especially for Chemistry and Mathematics problem variety. Prioritise recent papers for current question style and difficulty calibration.
